eye problem + adhd anon here
did y'all know the kindle android app doesn't have a built in narration function? and any ebook you buy off amazon is DRM'd to hell and back so you can't take it off the kindle app and put it on another app?
so on days where I absolute cannot get my eyes to focus on a screen enough to read I just.... don't have access to the books I've bought? even though every free ebook app on android has built in text to speech?
I did not know it didn't that sucks :(((
There's guides about how to DRM crack kindle books via calibew but idk how well it works so hopefully there's a boobie who can help ;A;
the extension installs for calibre but to configure the plugin you need to do some stuff that seems beyond me. like for android app books it says it needs android keys, and the other guide needs the serial number of a physical kindle. I tried googling more info but no luck
You can do it via PC Kindle app and Calibre, but only from an old version. I keep the installer file around for the rare occasion I need to DRM break a book on it. You have to set your Kindle app not to update too. It was a PAIN the last time I tried to do it but I found a guide that works if you want it.
Not that it helps much, but not every Kindle book has DRM. It appears to be optional. I bought a book for a fandom I'm in on sale once, and discovered it's DRM free accidentally
the ones im dealing with are DRM unfortunately :<. If you do have a guide that would be super great!!! I don't know if I can get ahold of the old installer anymore though unless you can point me there, I did read it may be required but was having trouble figuring out where to get it from
I just shut down my laptop for the day, but tomorrow I’ll get you the old installer and the guide I used!
thank you! its much appreciated!
Okay. It has been a while since I did this (like a year or more), so I'm blanking on which guide I used, but I just found this one, that is very good, and is pinging as "basically what I did."

If that installer doesn't work, let me know. I have a copy saved in my cloud drive I can get to you.
I ran into a couple of frustrating issues when I did this:
