OP

here to be annoying about a personal minecraft modpack i'm working on!!!

»which is basically what i wanted :)
  1. OP

SO the main idea of the modpack rn is i want to make early game take longer because that's my favorite part of minecraft

so it's gonna revolve particularly around the Natural Progression mod, which takes out tree punching and wooden tools

HOWEVER.... i also eventually want to be able to use tinker's, which could let you bypass a good chunk of the natural progression mod (which i don't want to be possible)

which leads me to the problem that tinker's patterns are made with sticks and planks, which while planks are a little more difficult to obtain in NP, it still only takes like 20 minutes tops to get to that point. so now what i'm thinking is, maybe i could make the patterns paper-based instead,

but then the problem is paper is VERY easy to obtain. so i want to make paper harder to get. so i'm thinking, well i could use the bark mod (since NP makes you strip wood anyway) & a custom item for pulp to make it more difficult in early game. and i like that idea

alternatively, i could have the patterns be cloth-based, which would require a textiles mod (which i'm eyeing anyway). much to think about

    1. OP

whether or not i make the patterns paper-based, though, i'll still want to try adding in the pulp method for paper because i think that's fun

»(also want to make alternate methods for creating books OR alternate methods for obtaining leather OR both)
    2. OP

realized i do not need a textiles mod because farmer's delight already adds canvas, which i can modify the recipe of to make a little harder to craft

  2. OP

a dead mod that i'm really interested in is Leather Works, which simultaneously makes leather easier to find and harder to craft into something usable, which is something i like.

a mod that ISNT dead, Improved Backpacks, includes the ui and all necessary for recreating the feeling of needing to prepare leather before using it, and i love that. it'd take some tweaking (crafttweaker my beloved) but i could make it so all leather has to be prepared before use

(and then to make it so this isn't just Thing You Skip Because It's Easier To Make Other Armor, i could make it so all armor requires leather, which would make some sense to me anyway)
